According to News 5, gunfire erupted at the “Marathon gas station on John A. Merritt Boulevard.” Mr. Thornton was apparently “at a pump near his car when he was shot.” WKRN reports, he was transported to Vanderbilt University Medical Center, where he tragically succumbed to fatal injuries.
