Local News

21-year-old Benjamin Evans and 24-year-old David Blackwell were reportedly shot and injured in the parking lot outside Summers Bar & Grill in Eden Saturday morning, April 22, 2017.

According to WXII 12 News, police responded “to Summers Bar & Grill in Eden as shots were reported to have been fired in the parking lot of the bar.” Mr. Evans and Mr. Blackwell were apparently transported to the hospital with injuries. Their current conditions have not been released.

A bar patron reportedly told FOX 8 she left prior to the shooting, “sensing something was wrong.”

Our Legal Take

Generally, property owners are required to protect all guests legally on the premises from any foreseeable harm. Should the facts of this matter reveal that the bar or parking lot owners failed to provide adequate security to protect those on its premises, Mr. Evans and Mr. Blackwell  may seek justice and elect to pursue legal claims for their injuries.

Based upon its prior successful experience in handling security negligence claims on behalf of victims and their families, The Murray Law Firm suggests that photographs and a thorough, unbiased inspection of the property will need to be performed immediately, before any evidence may be repaired, damaged or destroyed. Given the complexities of pursuing a negligent security case, it is imperative that the victims retain an experienced attorney who can ensure the preservation of any and all evidence that may support such a claim.
