Residents and guests of apartment complexes have a right to feel safe and secure while on the premises. The level of security provided at the complex is of significance, and is a relevant consideration when analyzing whether this shooting may have been prevented.  The following questions are also important in assessing whether this incident may have been avoided:

  • Have there been prior incidents of violence on the property, and were any security measures added after any prior incidents?
  • What security measures were in place to deter crime and protect the victims at the time of the shooting?
  • Was the complex aware of any suspicious persons or suspicious activity on the property prior to the shooting?

Property owners are generally required to protect against foreseeable harm to anyone and everyone legally on the premises.  Should the investigation into this incident reveal facts that establish that the complex owner or management lacked adequate security to protect its residents and visitors, the family of the deceased victim may seek justice and elect to pursue legal claims and substantial compensation for their loss. In addition, any injured victims may seek justice and elect to pursue legal claims and substantial compensation for their injuries.

Was a Security Lapse a Contributing Factor in East Twain Avenue Apartment Shooting?

Local News

A man was reportedly shot and injured at an East Twain Avenue apartment complex in Las Vegas Wednesday morning, December 28, 2016.

KTNV News reports, the shooting occurred “around 6:14 a.m. Wednesday at 764 East Twain Avenue.” The victim was apparently “shot near the complex parking lot.” The victim was transported to the hospital with injuries. It is unclear whether robbery is considered a motive in the violent attack.  LasVegasNow.com reports that the victim was “shot several times in his arms and legs” at “the Mi Casita Apartments.”

Did negligent security contribute to this shooting? We represent individuals and families who have suffered a tragic loss or injury as a consequence of negligent property security. Read Our Legal Take to find out if the victim may have a legal avenue for justice and claims for substantial compensation in Nevada, or call now for a free consultation with out legal team: 888.842.1616.

Our Legal Take

Apartment complex residents and guests have a right to feel safe and secure while on the premises. The Murray Law Firm questions the level of security provided in the complex and whether this shooting may have been prevented.

  • What access controls and parking lot security measures, such as gated entry, bright lighting, security patrols, and surveillance cameras, were in place to deter crime at the time of the shooting?
  • Have there been any prior incidents of violence on or near property? If so, were any additional security precautions implemented by the apartment owner or management to protect residents and guests?

Generally, property owners are required to protect all guests legally on the premises from any foreseeable harm. Should the facts of this matter reveal that the apartment complex owner or management company failed to provide adequate security to protect those on its premises, the victim may seek justice and elect to pursue legal claims for his injuries.

Based upon its prior successful experience in handling security negligence claims on behalf of victims and their families, The Murray Law Firm suggests that photographs and a thorough, unbiased inspection of the property will need to be performed immediately, before any evidence may be repaired, damaged or destroyed. Given the complexities of pursuing a negligent security case, it is imperative that the victim retain an experienced attorney who can ensure the preservation of any and all evidence that may support such a claim.
